This was the first place we have stayed which didn’t have breakfast. But, that gave us a chance to go to Denver Bicycle Cafe for it, conveniently it was only about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Brilliant place, a bike workshop and a cafe during the day, but a ‘beer cafe’ after 5pm! We’ll have to look for places at home to set up Morley Bicycle Cafe, or Chicago Bicycle Cafe :-/
After breakfast we headed to City Park, it was nice, but there wasn’t much there so we then went straight down to the Botanical Gardens. They were interesting, lots of plants. We walked about 6 miles. Lyns said she was feeling tired, it was a really flat walk though. After checking google, it turns out that Denver is a mile high! There is 17% less oxygen in the air (Scafell pike is just over half a mile).
Later in the day we went into down town Denver to have a look around. There were a lot of homeless people on the streets. The centre was nice, buildings nice, and loads of restaurants and things, but a ‘more than noticeable’ amount people wandering aimlessly about, asking for money etc. they weren’t threatening or anything, but it took the shine off the place. After googling it in the restaurant when we stopped at for tea, it turns out that its a major problem here, as the climate is so dry and warm all year. 6100 people live on the streets, and rising house prices is making it worse. The council made it illegal to camp in a urban place, but (as that didn’t solve any of the underlying problems) it got worse.
Tea was good, it was happy hour and we had the happiest waiter ever, then we headed back to the Bicycle Cafe for a beer before going back to the hotel. 12 miles walking today!
What good photos. I thought you were going on a cycle ride not just sampling to cafe. X
