Zeebrugge to Vlissingen

Mike headed out to get us some tea and coffee. Headed down to deck 3 to our bikes and cycled off with the cars!! Very exciting. After we showed our passports we were off and straight on a cycle path out of the port and into a nearby town. Nice wide cycle paths that didn’t just randomly end like they do here in England. Following the docks out of the port until we hit the beach. Along the prom there was a section for walkers and a separate section for bikes. It was really busy, surprisingly busy, it was a gorgeous day. We stopped at a cafe on the beach to have breakfast.

We continued further inland through fields, always on cycle paths. It got very busy as some of these routes were between towns, it is obvious here that people do not always use the car as their first mode of transport. Crossed the border into the Netherlands and the paths became better, which I didn’t think was possible. Hit the coast again for our final stretch towards the ferry and we could see it coming in.

Short ferry ride with team NL, (cyclists in Lycra thinking they were all that)!! At the other end we had another short cycle to our hotel in Vlissingen. After circling the hotel several times we managed to get checked in to our sea view room.

Lovely little place, headed out for some food, ended up at a restaurant with no English menus, ekk. We both went for the hamburger, which was delicious, along with chips, nachos, chutney, nuts, bacon …… and much much more. All of which was apparently listed on the menu. No complaints were had. On the way back we stopped at a bar on the beach for a beer before heading to bed, for a well earned nights sleep.

We had already checked the weather for tomorrow and this was not looking great, wind and rain…..
