Grand Canyon

Early start, we got picked up by Grand Adventures at 9am for the Grand Canyon Sunset tour. Headed to the most important stop of the morning, McDonalds for our breakfast. There were 8 of us in the mini bus and the driver Jordan.

Next stop was the Hoover Dam, to a viewing point on the bypass, it was really high and looked down onto the dam. Brilliant view, it was really difficult to gauge the size and distance it was just so big. Then we headed down to the dam and crossed over into Arizona. The water level of the reservoir, Lake Mead, is really low currently, you can see the white band just above the water in the picture below, this is how high the water used to be. Stopped off at another viewpoint to look out over the Lake Mead, it is massive.

Quick petrol stop and onto Seligman which is a tiny town on the historic Route 66. The film Cars was based on this town, and they had a couple of the cars with eyes from the movie. Nothing much else there though, just a few motels, shop and a random place with loads of mannequins outside.

After driving on roads with no sign of life, in any direction, we arrived at the Grand Canyon national park and drove up to the South Rim. Words cannot describe…

This was where we had out lunch, we ate sandwiches, grapes and cheese and crackers on the rim of the Grand Canyon, talk about a lunch with a view.

Had a wander along the edge of the rim and took loads of pictures. Then we headed back to our lunch spot to watch the Sunset. Amazing, again took loads of pictures.

Quite a long trip back, less stops this time, but well worth it.
